The EC submitted the list of 550 provincial lawmakers elected under both the first-past-the-post and proportional representation (PR) categories to the provincial chiefs at the President’s Office. There are 330 lawmakers elected directly while 220 come from the PR category. The poll authority will next publish the names on the Nepal Gazette.
These developments pave the way for National Assembly elections scheduled for February 7. Provincial lawmakers are the voters in the Upper House polls, along with chiefs and deputy chiefs of the local governments. According to the EC calendar, the voter list will be published on Sunday. Members of provincial assemblies have a higher weightage of votes than chiefs of the local governments.
