Doti locals call off general strike
Jan 21, 2018-
Agitating locals of Doti on Sunday called off the general strike enforced in the district for the past five days in view of the National Assembly.
The locals said that the general strike was called off considering the NA election and that they would resort to alternative forms of protest.
Doti residents are dissatisfied with the government decision to name Dhangadi as the temporary capital of Province 7. The struggle committee coordinator Narendra Khadka said that they would continue to press for their demand seeking Doti be named as the provincial capital through other forms of protests such as sit-in and silent rally.
The protesters, although decided to change their pressure tactic, have said that they won’t allow the government and non-government offices to open.
Though the local administration and struggle committee reached an agreement to call off the general strike, the latter decided to continue a daily two-hour sit-in followed by another two-hour shutdown of market until their demands were met, Khadka said in a press conference.
Doti residents have already staged a 22-day long hunger strike and sit-in including 13 days of complete general strike in the past pressing for the capitalhood.
