Left alliance forms taskforce to study good-governance, prosperity

The constituent parties of Left Alliance—CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Centre)—have formed a seven-member taskforce on Sunday to conduct necessary homework for the new government to ensure prosperity and good governance in the country.

The taskforce was formed at a meeting of Unity Coordination Committee that was constituted to facilitate the merger between the two parties at UML Chairman KP Oli’s residence in Balkot, Bhaktapur.

The taskforce was formed to turn the objective of prosperity and good governance as mentioned in the Left Alliance’s joint election manifesto during elections.

According to Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s press coordinator, UML Deputy Chairman Bam Dev Gautam heads the taskforce that includes UML leaders Bhim Rawal, Bijay Poudel, Yuvraj Khatiwoda and Maoist Centre leaders Barshaman Pun, Giriraj Mani Pokharel and Min Bahadur Shrestha as its members.

The meeting also endorsed the proposal of joint taskforce formed to prepare report on provincial government and National Assembly election. The taskforce had suggested 29 members from UML and 14 members from Maoist Centre in the National Assembly.

Chairmen of both the parties reportedly briefed the meeting on the latest developments in unification process. The chairmen informed the leaders that they were holding unification dialogues in a positive environment and also proposed to form an ideological and structural taskforce in a couple of days.

The Unity Coordination Committee meeting today also gave additional time to the joint taskforce to submit a report on province government, chief minister and speakers.

Leaders present in the meeting agreed to give due importance to the issue as the National Assembly meeting is inching closer.
