On the 22nd day of relay hunger strike, a dozen of women from the CPN-UML aligned All Nepal Women’s Association (ANWA) participated in protest.
Jog Kumari Tamang, chairperson of the ANWA, who led the hunger strike, said they will continue to protest until their demand is fulfilled.
“The Madhes based leaders only used Birgunj for their votes. When it comes to fulfilling the people’s demand, they are nowhere to be found,” said Tamang.
The people in neighbouring Bara and Rautahat districts have also supported the ongoing protest to make Birgunj the capital of Province 2. After the government declared Janakpur as the temporary provincial capital of the province, protest for capitalhood has intensified in Birgunj.
The protest is being spearheaded by the local cadres of the CPN-UML, Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Centre).
