DAO refuses to provide information about CJ Parajuli’s citizenship

Earlier on January 31, Dr Govinda KC, senior orthopedic surgeon at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), among others, had filed an application under Right to Information Act at the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, seeking information about CJ Parajuli’s citizenship.
Dr KC has been accusing CJ Parajuli of acquiring two citizenship certificates.
A letter signed by Assistant Chief District Officer Lalit Kumar Basnet has stated that the DAO had already sent the information about CJ Parajuli’s citizenship on January 23, as demanded in a letter sent by the Supreme Court on January 19.
The DAO stated that it was not necessary to provide information from the District Administration Office as the petitioner can get a copy of information regarding CJ Parajuli’s citizenship.
Likewise, according to the citizenship regulations, an employee and his/her family members can obtain the citizenship from the District Administration Office of the district where his/her workplace is situated.
Dr KC’s team had also filed an application at the District Administration Office, Tanahun seeking information about CJ Parajuli’s citizenship.
Earlier on January 8, police had arrested Dr KC on a contempt of court case after he allegedly made contemptuous remarks against the Supreme Court.
During the court hearing, Dr KC had accused CJ Parajuli of obtaining two citizenship certificates. Later, Dr KC’s team had sought information about CJ Parajuli’s citizenship.
