Three Indian men, who were kidnapped on Wednesday from Sundar Haraicha Municipality, Morang, have been rescued from Belbari Municipality.
Police said they rescued Ajaya Sah, Akhilesh Kumar Sah and Dinbandhu Tiwari of Khadiya, India, and arrested five kidnappers from a house in Belbari on Saturday night.
A fourth abduction victim, whom police identified as Rajkishor Sah, had managed to flee and report the crime to police. Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar BC said a search team was mobilised immediately after Rajkishor contacted police and reported the incident.
Police have identified the kidnappers as Narayan Shah and Madhukar Shah of Sunsari and Tikaram Chaudhary, Thakur Gurung and Nawaraj Gautam of Sundar Haraicha, Morang.
SP BC said IRs 50,000 cash, five mobile sets and one motorcycle were also seized from the kidnappers.
Ajaya Sah told police that his acquaintance Baleshwor Rajak of Forbesganj, India, had worked out a plan with the kidnappers to abduct him and three of his friends by inviting them to a puja. The kidnappers had reportedly demanded Rs 100,000 each from the three men.
Police are after at least four other suspects in connection to the case.
