Two men rape girl, 16, in Bajura

Two men raped a 16-year-old girl in Budhiganga Municipality-7 of Bajura district, police said. The victim’s family members on Saturday lodged a complaint at the District Police Office, stating that two local men overpowered the victim and raped her on Thursday. Police have taken the suspects, aged 30 and 22, into custody for investigation following the complaint.The girl’s father said the villagers exerted tremendous pressure on the victim family to settle the issue at the local level. “They even threatened to kill us if we filed a police case. The villagers attempted to prevent us while coming to Martadi, the district headquarters, to file the complaint,” he claimed.
According to the victim, the perpetrators took her to a forest near Barjugadh while she was going to Betalmandau Bazaar to buy goods. “They named my brother and assured to drop me in the bazaar on their motorcycle. They did not let me get off the bike though I cried. They took me to the forest and committed the crime,” said the
victim. The girl said that 30-year-old raped her while another abetted the former in the crime.
According to the victim, the suspects warned to stab her to death if she disclosed the incident to others after the crime. They took me to a lodge in Devasthali that night and misbehaved, she added. “They lifted a cooking gas cylinder and aimed at me when I tried to yell for help in the lodge. They threatened that other people in the area are their men and nobody would listen to me,” she said.
The medical test of the girl was carried out in the district hospital on Friday. “The lab report is yet to come. The girl also had injuries around her face,” said Dr Rupchandra Bishwokarma at the hospital.
Rape crimes have increased in the country. Four rape cases were reported in Saptari, Kanchanpur and Mahottari districts on Friday. Deputy Superintendent of Police Hari Bahadur Oli in Bajura said detailed investigation into the rape incident is underway.
