Dr Govinda KC has urged the government to include a member from dentistry on the Health Profession Education Commission (HPEC).Dr Govinda KC has urged the government to include a member from dentistry on the Health Profession Education Commission (HPEC). Dr KC said on Friday that the HPEC should have members from various fields, including dentistry, on the commission. “We were consulted when the government prepared the list of members for each concerned field. However, when the decision was made we found that dentistry was left out,” Dr KC said in a statement.
The statement from Dr KC comes days after the government appointed seven members of the HPEC. The government on Monday had appointed Dr Srijana Shrestha of Patan Academy of Health Sciences; Dr Jagdish Prasad Agrawal, Dean of IoM; Dr Mukti Ram Shrestha, President of Nepal Medical Association; Tara Pokhrel, President of Nepal Nursing Association; Dr Shekhar Babu Rijal, President of Association of Health Profession Educationists of Nepal; Gauri Karki, former Chairperson of Special Court and former official of Health Minister Bijaya KC as members.
Dr KC has also expressed hope that the government will approve ordinance of the Health Profession Education Act. The HPEC is an overarching body to regulate country’s health education, including medicine. The first meeting was held almost three months after President Bidya Devi Bhandari authenticated the Health Profession Education Ordinance on February 5. (PR)
