Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr Govinda KC has blamed human error for the inconsistencies in his date of birth.

After a section of the media reported three different dates of birth mentioned in his educational certificates and promotional documents, Dr KC admitted there might be errors and he is ready to correct them.

At a press conference held on the premises of TUTH in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu on Wednesday, Dr KC displayed his original citizenship certificate and character certificate of School Leaving Certificate (SLC) and admitted there are discrepancies in his date of birth.

The anti-corruption crusader, who demands a fair investigation into the authenticity of Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli’s citizenship certificate, made the move to clear the confusion after media asked questions about the certificates Dr KC submitted for his promotions at various levels.

According to his citizenship certificate displayed at the press conference, Dr KC’s date of birth was October 12, 1956; but his SLC character certificate mentions his date of birth as February 6, 1957.

“I admit there are incontinences in my date of birth in the documents submitted for promotion,” said Dr KC. He added that he would have gone to the concerned bodies to make correction had he known about it earlier.

“However, if these inconsistencies deem me unfit for my job, I will immediately resign,” said Dr KC. “Can Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli do the same?”

Dismissing the allegations that he had not submitted his citizenship and other certificates, Dr KC claimed that it was only an attempt by the Tribhuvan University office bearers to create unnecessary controversy by deliberately concealing his documents.

Gauri Bahadur Karki-led Commission recommends action against TU senior officials including Vice-Chancellor, Rector, and Registrar for their “dubious” roles in granting affiliation to private medical schools including the National Medical College. The Karki Commission formed to investigate anomalies in medical education, blames their leadership for the “deteriorating quality of medical education in the country”.

KC has called for CJ Parajuli’s removal by filing an impeachment motion in the parliament. He has accused CJ Parajuli of being a corrupt individual and warned of resorting to another strike.
