Karki, who came as a second half replacement for skipper Bharat Khawas, netted the only goal of the match in the 89th minute after MMC defenders failed to clear the ball inside their area.
The Army outfits had defeated the same opponent in the tiebreaker to clinch the title in the last edition. They will take on the winners of second semi-final match on Thursday between Nepal Police Club and Sankata Club. The final will be played on Saturday.
The victory puts Army closer to winning their sixth title of the season. The departmental team were crowned champions of the Simara Gold Cup on Saturday besides lifting the Khaptad Gold Cup in Dhangadi, Bishal Memorial Gold Cup in Birgunj, Satashi Gold Cup and Kakadbhitta Gold Cup—both in Jhapa—this season.
The Army team coach Nabin Neupane said that his team executed the game plan to perfection to win the tough contest. Neupane’s MMC counterpart Chhiring Lopsang did not attend the post match press conference. The tournament offers Rs 500,000 to the winners and Rs 300,000 to the runners-up.
