Sanima Bank Limited on Thursday honoured young Nepali leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane by doubling up the stipend he gets from the company.

Sanima had tied up with Lamichhane as his sponsor for two years and the bank had been providing the Indian Premier League (IPL)-bound Nepali cricketer with Rs 20,000 since July, 2016. Amidst a programme, Sanima Bank Chief Executive Officer Bhuwan Dahal announced that the company was going to double up the stipend.

“Sandeep has been sensational for the Nepali team. He has had a wonderful outing in ICC World Cricket League Division 2 in Namibia and finished up winning the man-of-the-series there. Its really great to see him getting a contract with IPL team Delhi Daredevils which he has earned because of his talent. I hope our gesture will motivate other corporate houses to follow the suit,” said Dahal.

After becoming the first Nepali cricketer to be signed up in the IPL, Lamichhane marked a memorable outing at Division 2 finish as the joint leading wicket-taker with 17 wickets that included his maiden five-for in List ‘A’ which came against Kenya. Lamichhane said this is just the beginning of his career. “I am really happy that my achievements are recognizing Nepal in the global stage,” said Lamichhane.
