Police Thursday said they have started further investigations on gang members of Manoj Pun who was shot dead in a gunbattle with police officers on Wednesday in Rupandehi.

According to police, at least 10 gang members of Pun are still at large who are allegedly associated to high-profile killings in Nepal. Among them is Lopsan Lama, who is believed to be the shooter who killed Durga Tiwari in Rupandehi.

“We are watchful,” said Deputy Inspector General of Police Pushkar Karki, Chief of Central Investigation Bureau. DIG Karki said he cannot comment on the details of the investigation, but they are still looking of few high-profile criminals associated with Pun.

Pun was killed in a police encounter in Devdaha Municipality of Rupandehi district Wednesday morning. He was shot dead along with his aide Som Bahadur Ale.

Police are hunting for Lopsang Lama who had shot dead builder Gauchan. Immediately after the crime, Lopsang Lama had called several builders and police officials, including SSP Rabindra Dhanuk, then chief of the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, owning up to crime. Lama is absconding and believed to be hiding in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh somewhere in Gorakhpur and Faizabad.

Apart from Lama, police said Ganga Lingden, Amar Bahadur Lama, Roshan Budhathoki and Ajay Thapa are also on the run. Lama had deserted the Nepal Army.

Police said they are searching for clues in properties owned by Pun. People in Rupandehi, where he hails from, said that there is no visible wealth owned by Pun’s family. They reason he lived away from his family outside Nepal more often. They suspect he might have invested in other districts.

Rupandehi Superintendent of Police Shyam Gyawali confirmed they are investigating Pun’s properties.
