At the Kirtipur basketball court, player-of-the-day Sumanga Bogati scored 18 points and took nine rebounds to make sure that the hosts maintain their unbeaten streak in the tournament. Kirtipur and Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) have nine points from three back-to-back victories but the latter stay ahead in terms of score difference.
Kirtipur went ahead by six points (17-11) in the first quarter but Xavier hit back in the second scoring 20 to that of 16 from their opponents.
The match was evenly poised with Kirtipur just holding a one-shot lead into the second half of the game but they took the match away in the third period. Kirtipur let Xavier score just eight points in the penultimate quarter and netted 18 to go ahead by 12 points in the decider.
Xavier did try their best netting 18 in the final quarter but Kirtipur scored 13 to condemn the visitors to their second consecutive loss in the tournament.
Samir Niraula’s performance was also crucial for Kirtipur after he scored 10 points, took seven rebounds, made three assists and had four steals. Anil Khadgi Shahi also netted 11 points for the home side.
Binesh Neupane sunk in 15 points with five rebounds, while Nikesh Magar had 13 points and four rebounds. On Saturday, the Armymen will play hosts to Team Budhanilkantha Municipality in Bhadrakali. Golden Gate International College will welcome Himalayan Hounds in the second match of the day.
