NC forms committee to elect PP leader

According to NC spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma, the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of NC held at party central office in Sanepa, Laliptur on Sunday decided form a three member committee under leader Chin Kaji Shrestha. Party leaders Nabindra Joshi and Bhishma Raj Aangdembe have been appointed the committee members.
The party is expected to hold the election to pick PP leader on Tuesday. However, today’s CWC meet failed to finalise the date of election for parliamentary party.
The NC is working to revise its statute in line with two-tier legislative system adopted by the new constitution. The NC is preparing to elect its PP leader ahead of the first meeting of federal parliament slate for March 5.
NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and senior leader Prakash Man Singh are preparing to join the race for PP leader. Singh is running for the PP leader post from the faction of senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel.
The CWC meeting also endorsed the Parliamentary Party Statute.
The NC held its first joint PP meeting of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly on Saturday and endorsed a draft statute related to PP leader election, governing party’s parliamentary affairs, and forwarded it to CWC for endorsement.
Meanwhile, the NC is planning to convene a separate meeting to review the party’s performance in the local, provincial and federal elections.
