Madrid to help clean Kathmandu rivers

After signing an MoU with the KMC recently, Luis Carlos Cueto, deputy mayor of Madrid, said recently that Madrid will help Kathmandu in solid waste segregation from its rivers. “The Madrid city has a capacity to refine 3,000 tonne of solid waste in a day.
We want to share this experiences with Kathmandu,” said Cueto, who had come to Kathmandu with a 15-member team at the invitation of KMC mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya. Madrid is the first European sister city of Kathmandu.
This relationship was established during mayor Shakya’s visit to Madrid last September. “Establishing such relationship helps us for the preservation of heritage sites, promotion of sports, tourism and also help us to strengthen people to
people relationship exchanging cultural knowledge, ” Shakya said.
The Madrid delegation visited various heritage sites of Kathmandu and Lumbini during their stay. They left on Friday. (PR)
