APF badminton, tennis kick off from March 11

All three tournaments will be held simultaneously from March 11 to 16 at the APF headquarters premises in Halchowk and Satdobato with a combined total prize money of Rs 1.76 million, informed APF AIG Sailendra Khanal on Sunday. Badminton and lawn tennis will be played in Halchowk while lawn tennis will be held in Halchowk and at the Satdobato tennis courts.
The 14th Nationwide Krishna Mohan Memorial Open Badminton Championships will feature events in total and offer Rs 710,000 in prize money. Events include men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, mixed doubles, U-17 boys’ and girls’ singles, veteran’s doubles above 45-year-old and 55-year-old, and inter-governmental service for above 35-year-old shuttlers.
Top three finishers in men’s singles will get Rs 60,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively and each quarter-finalist will also earn Rs 5,000 each. The women’s singles champions will pocket Rs 50,000 with the runner-up and the third-placed played to receive Rs 25,000 and Rs 12,500 respectively. Men’s and women’s doubles champions will also be rewarded with cash prizes.
The 10th Sahabir Memorial Open Lawn Tennis Championships will have 13 events and offers Rs 595,000 in prize money. Lawn tennis will have men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, veteran’s singles and doubles above 35, 45, 55 and 65 years age-category and inter-governmental services competition. The winners and runners up in men’s and women’s singles events will be rewarded with Rs 60,000 and Rs 30,000. The third place finishers in men’s event will get Rs 20,000 and all quarter-finalitss will get Rs 5,000 each.
The fifth National Open Women’s Volleyball Tournament features six teams: Nepal Police Club, Tribhuvan Army Club, APF Club, New Diamond Academy, Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Centre and Western Region. The tournament will be played under league-cum-knockout format with teams divided into two pools. The winners and runners up from each pool will make to the semi-finals. The winners and the runners up will earn Rs 250,000 and Rs 125,000. The third place finishers will get Rs 50,000.
