An application has been submitted at the Supreme Court seeking registration of contempt of court case against Chief Justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli on Thursday.

Stating that the CJ Parajuli’s unilateral decision has tarnished the image of the court, Manoj Kumar Adhikar, 48, of Pepsicola submitted the application seeking registration of contempt of court case against CJ Parajuli and demanded maximum penalty against him.

Adhikari, in his application, has stated that he wanted to register the case in view of recent media reports that CJ Parajuli had issued a death threat to senior advocate Dr Surendra Bhandari.

Adhikari said that CJ Parajuli’s such activities had made the mockery of the court and demanded the apex court take action against the CJ.

Earlier on January 31, Bhandari, who defended Dr Govinda KC in a contempt of court case against him, stated that CJ Parajuli issued threat to him first on January 10 after the conclusion of hearing on the contempt of court case. He claimed Parajuli again threatened him last Thursday following a write-up by Bhandari in a national newspaper about Parajuli.

Earlier on January 8, SC Section Officer Netra Bandhu Poudel had lodged a contempt of court case against Dr KC after the latter demanded resignation of CJ Parajuli and investigation into the authenticity of his citizenship certificate.

After the contempt of court case was lodged, a police team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, under the direction of SC, arrested Dr KC from the premises of TUTH.
