Chasing a modest 150 runs target, a half century from captain Kyle Coetzer ensured they reach the target with 51 balls to spare.
Nepal elected to bat first after winning the toss but a collapse in batting saw them post 149 from 47.4 overs. Skipper Paras Khadka top scored with 63 runs. Basanta Regmi was the only other notable contributor with 24 runs late on in the innings. Nepal’s recognised batsmen including Gyanendra Malla, Sharad Bheswakar and Dipendra Singh Airee performed poorly adding a combined total of just two runs to the team total.
Scottish opener and captain Coetzer scored 88 runs for his side to guide them to a comfortable victory.
Basanta Regmi and Sandip Lamichhane claimed two wickets each while Lalit Rajbanshi and Dipendra Singh Airee had one each to their kitty.
Nepal will play their next match against Afghanistan on Saturday.
Only the top sides from two groups will secure berths to the World Cup.
