Distinguished women mark IWD
Mar 9, 2018-Distinguished women leaders, including the Minister of Women, Children and Social Welfare Tham Maya Thapa, Speaker Onsari Gharti and Honourary Consulate of Italy Pratima Pande, among others, came together at a function held at Yak and Yeti Hotel in Kathmandu to celebrate the power and pride of womanhood marking the International Women’s Day. The event was hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Nepal.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Women, Children and Social Welfare Tham Maya Thapa addressed the audience emphasising on this year’s theme—Time is Now: Rural and Urban Activists Transforming Women’s Lives. “Unless we can offer women their fundamental rights, the dream of an equal Nepal will remain just a dream,” Thapa said.
Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong said that China will always be supportive towards empowering Nepali women in various sectors. “As Nepal just concluded its three level elections, we see that this new development will offer abundance of opportunities to Nepali women,” Hong said, adding that “Nepali women are strong headed and have equally contributed to society—socially, culturally and economically... I am glad to be celebrating this special day in Nepal, along with amazing women who have contributed a lot to the country.”
