Rohit Kumar Paudel and Sompal Kami were instrumental in the team's victory. Poudel played cautiously for his 48 from 86 balls including five boundaries. Sompal Kami was more fluent scoring 37 from 40 balls.
Nepal achieved the 154 runs target from 40.4 balls.
Poudel and Sompal added 89 runs after a scary moment when Nepal lost quick wickets of Anil Kumar Sah (26), Gyanendra Malla (12) and skipper Paras Khadka (11). Dipendra Singh Airee also added 12 runs for the team.
Aizaz Khan and Ehsan Khan both took two wickets each for Hong Kong.
Earlier, losing the toss and fielding first, Nizakat Khan scored 47 to help his team post 153 runs. Sandip Lamichhane claimed three wickets for Nepal while Karan KC and Basanta Regmi also had two each to their name.
Nepal, however, failed to enter the Super Six after finishing fourth in their group. Zimbabwe, Scotland and Afghanistan made it to the Super Six after finishing inside the top three from Group B.
