The SC benches have not begun the hearing process three hours after the cause list was assigned following SC Justice Cholendra SJB Rana’s comment, on Monday, regarding the birth date of Chief Justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli.
According to SC administration, the four different SC benches of— justices Dipak Raj Joshi and Prakash Raut, Justices Ishwar Khatiwada and Ananda Mohan Bhattarai, Justices Hari Krishna Karki and Sapana Malla Pradhan, and Justices Bishwombar Shrestha and Anil Kumar Sinha—have not yet begun hearing on the respective cases assigned to them.
“You know what unfolded at the SC after yesterday’s incident,” said a SC official, “The justices are holding discussions regarding the issue.”
SC Spokesperson Narayan Panthi, speaking about the matter said, “The justices might have be caught on discussions and the benches might start hearing cases soon afterwards.”
Meanwhile, six other benches are hearing cases allotted to them. They include—the bench of CJ Parajuli and Tej Bahadur KC, another bench of Justices Om Prakash Mishra and Dambar Bahadur Shahi, joint benches of Justices Dipak Karki and Tanka Moktan, Justices Kedar Chalise and Sharada Prasad Ghimire, Justices Mira Khadka and Bam Kumar Shrestha—and a single bench of Justice Puroshottam Bhandari are hearing their respective cases.
However, no bench has been allotted for Justice Cholendra SJB Rana despite him being present at the apex court today.
Meanwhile, a press conference has been organised by lawyers who have expressed dissent over the leadership and working style of the Nepal Bar Association. NBA, on Monday, had issued a press statement defending the controversial Chief Justice.
