CJ Parajuli should not be impeached: NC leader Poudel
Mar 14, 2018-
Nepali Congress (NC) senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel has said that an impeachment motion should not be registered against the Supreme Court Chief Justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli.
Speaking in a programme at the party central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur on Wednesday, Poudel raised objections to unconfirmed reports of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli suggesting the sitting Chief Justice to resign from the post and purported plans to register an impeachment motion against CJ Parajuli.
Saying that he was against the party decision to register impeachment motion against the then Chief Justice Sushila Karki, leader Poudel said: “Was it for this purpose that the government sought a two-thirds majority? We have to be aware that if we keep on registering impeachment motions against people of constitutional bodies, communist totalitarianism will rule the nation.”
Responding to a query by a Kantipur journalist regarding the matter, leader Poudel said that a ploy to terrorise the members of constitutional bodies is underway by threatening to register the impeachment motion, and it should be stopped.
“Communist totalitarianism will grip the nation, if CJ Parajuli is impeached,” said Poudel, “Then, after that, in order to save the press Kantipur should ogranise a rally.”
