EC sets March 23 for Vice President's election

A meeting of the EC chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav on Wednesday made a decision to this effect, EC Spokesperson Nawaraj Dhakal said.
The voting for the election will take place from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Federal Parliament Building (International Convention Center) based in New Baneshwor. As per the election schedule finalised by the EC, voters' name list will be made public tomorrow and the day for filing nomibations has been set for March 17, while the final list of candidate(s) will be published on March 18.
The constitutional provision is that the EC should fix the date for the election to the post of Vice President within days of the announcement of the presidential election results.
Incumbent President Bidya Devi Bhandari was elected for her second term at the Sheetal Niwas through the presidential election held Tuesday. The female president is from the Khas Arya community. As per the constitution, the candidate for the election of a vice-president shall be from different gender or community of the individual elected to the post of president.
The EC has said with the fixing of the date for the vice- president election, it has already started preparations for the same. RSS
