In the first quarter-final match, Golden Gate hammered Janata College by 62 runs and DAV eased to a seven-wicket victory over Shankar Dev Campus. In the semi-finals on Friday, Golden Gate will meet DAV and Cosmos will take on Tribhuvan University.
A half century from Bhupendra Thapa and quickfire knocks from Sanjay Shrestha and Ravi Kumar Sah lifted Golden Gate to 171-5 in 20 overs. Sah then returned to give a disciplined bowling effort as Janata were restricted to 109-4. Man-of-the-match Sah returned with figures of 2-6 from three overs as Janata failed to score runs against Golden Gate part timers.
Opener Ankit Raj managed to score more than a run-a-ball making 26 from 22 balls with four boundaries and a six. Nirajan KC hit just one boundary in his 26 from 38 deliveries. Sahab Alam and Shrestha also took a wicket each for Golden Gate.
Earlier, Shrestha led the attack from top order smashing 42 from 22 balls with three boundaries and two sixes. Thapa anchored the innings before cutting lose in the closing overs in his 45-ball 57 that included four sixes and three boundaries. Sah struck two sixes and as many boundaries in his 27-ball 42 not out.
Shankar Dev rode on a 25-ball half century from Pradeep Airee to make 168-5 in 20 overs but Aadil Khan put one time national team opener’s innings in shadow striking 35-ball 77 as DAV reached 172-2 in just 15.3 overs.
Gaurav Khadka (22) was a calm ally when Khan gave a 62-run opening wicket partnership to DAV. He added another 57 runs for the second wicket with Sumit Maharjan (28 not out) to put his team in a strong position. Sanjay Basnet and Maharjan eased the chase with a 53-run unbroken stand for the third wicket. Basnet made 16-ball 36 with six fours and a six. Man-of-the-match Khan hit six sixes and five fours.
Shankar Dev had a decent start after Ayushman Bam and Sunil Dhamala added 82 runs for the first wicket as both batsmen made 44 runs each. Dhamala hit four boundaries and two sixes in his 37-ball innings, while Bam’s 39-ball knock included three boundaries and two hits over the fence. Airee struck four sixes and two boundaries. Sumit Jha and Dilip Yadav took two wickets each for DAV.
