Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said political interference in bureaucracy under any pretext would be unbearable for the party.
Inaugurating the seventh general convention of the Nepal Civil Service Employees’ Union (Organisation) in Ratnanagar, Chitwan on Sunday, Deuba called for allowing the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Civil Service and judiciary function independently.
According to the former PM, these sectors have started facing undue intervention from the incumbent government. He vowed to strongly protest it provided that these bodies were not allowed to operate independently. “The NC is ever ready to assist in the implementation of the constitution,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, NC senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel expressed doubt over the government’s intention behind seeking a two-thirds majority to address the demand for constitution amendment.
NC General Secretary Shashanka Koirala said the party would play its role as the opposition in Parliament based on the government performance.
NC Parliamentary Party Deputy Leader Bijay Kumar Gachhadar said the government had no right to change the constitution through a two-third majority as it was drafted by the 94 percent of the lawmakers and was stronger than the government.
