Forum theatre is a form of theatre that constitutes a play which is followed by a discussion and discourse between actors and audiences. Running typically for 15-20 minutes, forum theatres are based on the ‘Theatre of the Oppressed’ idea which developed in the early 1970’s. The content of the play as well as discourse revolves around social issues such as discrimination, abuse, and oppression. Dream Eating Monster is based on the life of a 13-year-old kid who is haunted by the torture, abuse, and oppression he had suffered.
Dream Eating Monster is the story of Aman, a 13- year-old village boy reared only by his father. One morning, the father wakes up from a bitter dream where he sees children fall victim to an indifferent and cruel society. The play then shows the audience Aman’s bitter reality where he is tortured and harassed at school, which prompts him to leave for Kathmandu in search of a job, only to be abused by his self-serving employers.
