President Bidya Devi Bhandari has urged Nepal Bar Association (NBA) to maintain its institutional dignity.
Inaugurating the 14th Central National Assembly of the NBA in Nepalgunj on Friday, she hailed the NBA for its vital role in democratic process and urged it to remain active for the supremacy of law.
“I praise Nepal Bar Association (NBA) for its role of hitting the streets when democracy was in danger in recent times,” said President Bhadnari. “As I am taking part in the programme of legal professionals, I want to request you all to focus your attention to institutionalise the dignity of NBA by reviewing the role it played in the past,” she said, adding, “I expect the NBA will get success in protecting the supremacy of constitution, rule of law, democracy and human rights.”
Saying that the legal professionals are conscious, aware, and progressive campaigners, President Bhandari called on the lawyers to make the role of country’s politics, and economy effective. She urged them to help in maintaining the civilian freedom, social justice, and inclusiveness as guided by the constitution.
Around 3000 legal workers from across the country have gathered at the convention being held in Nepalgunj. Acting Chief Justice Deepak Raj Joshee, Attorney General Agni Prasad Kharel, former NBA presidents are participating in the gathering.
