Legal professionals have raised serious concerns over the recent activities of Nepal Bar Association, stating that the umbrella organisation of Nepali lawyers has failed to take the required stand in the recent controversies surrounding the judiciary.

As lawyers from across the country assembled in Nepalgunj for the 14th national convention of the NBA, they charged the bar leadership with helplessly watching when the judiciary as a whole was embroiled in a controversy over the birth date of then-chief justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli and when an impeachment motion was registered against former CJ Sushila Karki earlier.

“The NBA leadership has failed miserably. When questions were raised at the judiciary over discrepancies in birth dates of Parajuli, it did not respond,” said senior advocate Bishwakant Mainali.

Former Speaker and senior advocate Daman Nath Dhungana asked the NBA, which always stood for democracy and the rule of law, to maintain own dignity.
