Forty-eight-year-old Kami Rita Sherpa will soon embark on a journey to set a new world record by climbing Mt Everest for 22 times.
Sherpa is planning to scale the world’s tallest peak this climbing season that will begin on the first week of May. If he succeeds in this endeavour, he will break the old record of 21 ascents to Mt Everest made by two other Sherpas – Apa Sherpa and Phurba Tashi Sherpa—both of whom have announced retirement.
According to Kami Rita, he will be embarking to the Everest on April 1. “If everything goes according to the plan, I will make the final summit push on May 29,” he said.
Kami had made the maiden ascent on Everest in 1994 when he was 24 years old. In his 21 ascents, he has climbed Everest from the Chinese side only once in 2016.
