Minister for Law Sher Bahadur Tamang has said that the government is formulating a policy that will make it mandatory for the aid money to legal sector from donor agencies to be spent only through the ministry.

Addressing a press meet at Ministry of Law on Tuesday, Minister Tamang said that the financial assistance donated to the country in the name of legal aid has been misused. “It seemed that Nepal received Rs 4.5 billion as legal assistance from donors in 2016,” he noted. “But it was found that the aid money was spent on foreign visits of judicial staffers.”

He said that the draft of the policy has already been prepared and is in the process of being endorsed after taking necessary inputs.

Minister Tamang also said that five model laws regarding province have been prepared.
