Elderly persons in Nepalgunj say they are facing difficulty collecting their social security allowance because of travelling hassles and a long wait at banks.
They have appealed to their local governments to make an arrangement where they could collect their allowance from their village.
“I am too old to walk or stand for a long time. Coming to the bank to collect the allowance is difficult for the people of my age,” said Mohammad Abdul Halwai, who was standing in the line at Western Development Bank in Newroad to withdraw his allowance.
Senior citizens above 70 years are entitled to receive Rs 2,000 a month as social security allowance.
Nepalgunj Sub-metropolis has been handing out elderly social security allowance through various banks. There are around 3,000 senior citizens in Nepalgunj.
Chief Executive Officer of Nepalgunj Sub-metropolis Hari Pyakurel said they have taken the concern of senior citizens seriously.
“We are looking for the banks that are willing to provide social security allowance to the recipients at their villages,” he said.
