2 idols missing for 40 years brought back from US

Two idols that had gone missing for the past 40 years have been brought back to Nepal from the United States of America, informed Department of Archaeology.

An idol of Uma Maheshwor that had gone missing from Tangahiti in Patan since 1980 and another 12th-13th century idol of Gautam Buddha that had gone missing from Etkha, Kathmandu since 1986, were brought back to Nepal from New York-based Metropolitan Museum.

The Department of Archaeology on Wednesday organised a press meet to make public the returned artifacts. Department Director General Bhesh Narayan Dahal informed that the department is coordinating to bring back other artifacts that have been missing.

The New York Metropolitan Museum had removed the idols from their display after being informed that the idols were stolen from Nepal and smuggled to the USA.
