The Kathmandu Valley has been witnessing rainfall almost every day, forcing the people to commute through waterlogged streets, and wear warm clothes due to the plunge in temperature.

According to meteorologist Barun Paudel, the weather has been changing as the pre-monsoon has become active for the past two-three days.

“The rain will continue for a few more days,” said Poudel, adding, “This is called the activities of the pre-monsoon.”

Experts say the country usually witness the activities of pre-monsoon in March, April and May. The monsoon, however, will start from the second week of June.

Although the weather could be fair during morning hours, the afternoon will be stormy with lightning and shower, Paudel said.

“Active pre-monsoon is a good omen for monsoon. The rain will occur within a gap of one or two days, though the weather won’t change every day,” meteorologists said.

According to meteorologist, the Valley has been witnessing rainfall for the past three days due to the influence of westerly wind.

“Pre-monsoon will get excessively active for some days and will provide indication of monsoon,” Paudel said, adding, “It indicates that the country will witness more rainfall this year.”

The Central and Western region including Kathmandu Valley witnessed rainfall on Wednesday.

The western hilly region and Himalayan region including Kathmandu, Pokhara, Bhairahawa, Butwal, Dang, Nepalgunj, Surkhet, Dhangadhi witnessed more rain today, the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) said.
