Five Nepal women have been rescued from a brothel in India. They were rescued at the initiatives of Maiti Nepal and support from Indian police and human rights activists. Four other Indian women were also rescued from the brothel.

The Nepali women were sold to an Agra-based brothel two-five years ago. They were taken to India on the pretext of marriages and sold.

Among the rescued women, two are from Sindhupalchok, two from Nuwakot and one from Dhading. During interrogation, the rescued women said they were sold by the Nepali youth.

According Keshav Koirala, regional coordinator of the Maiti Nepal Nepalgunj, they managed to rescue the women after two months of constant efforts.

He said the members of Maiti Nepal used to visit the brothel being customers to find the women.
