The Cabinet on Tuesday urged citizens to find from their respective communities at least one out-of-school child and enrol him/her in school by voluntarily becoming guardians.
The Cabinet request follows the government’s campaign to bring all financially challenged children into the country’s educational system.
State Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Baskota said the Cabinet decided to seek help of political leaders, elected representatives, business community, civil society, media persons, artists, and civil staff besides academia to admit children denied education into schools.
Around three percent children in Nepal do not have access to school education for various reasons.
Among the 313,289 out-of-school children from grade one to eight, 25,515 are from Sarlahi district.
The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology starts school enrolment drive on April 15. The ministry aims to increase net the enrolment rate to 97.2 percent in the new academic session beginning next week.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will propel the campaign by enrolling an out-of-school child from Jumla on March 18.
