“We are planning to make it an annual tournament and hope it will help provide much needed exposure to young players,” said Thakur Gaire, the youth leader of CPN-UML, said on Wednesday. Gaire said the players will be picked up with assistance from active districts clubs, National Sports Council coaches, district and regional sports development committee. The final provincial selection will be held on April 19-20. Selection from the Province No 1 will be held in Biratnagar, No 2 in Birgunj, No 3 in Kathmandu, No 4 in Pokhara, No 5 in Bhairahawa, No 6 in Surkhet and No 7 in Dhangadhi.
Altogether 14 players, one coach and manager will assemble in Kathmandu to compete in the final round to be held under league-cum-knockout format. The
winners and runners up from each of the two pools will advance to the knockout stage.
The winners will be rewarded with cash and cricketing kits worth Rs 500,000 and the runners-up with get Rs 250,000 apart from the cricketing kits. The Centre also plans to honour a national player of men’s and women’s team and a coach with Manamohan National Cricket Award.
