The police on Wednesday arrested a gang of document forgers. The Metropolitan Crime Division officers arrested three persons including Bal Bahadur Raut of Nepaltar.

The gang comprising three members forged educational, birth and death certificates; government, bank, licences, police and consular services documents using fake seals of government offices and officers.

Police uncovered the racket after Khumananda Thapa, resident of Gulmi, visited the Department of Consular Services in Tripureswor to attest his police report and SLC certificate faked by Raut.

Officials noticed the forged certificates after police found they already had the stamp and signatures of the department. Arjun Adhikary of Rapti Municipality-7, Chitwan, had helped Thapa to make the fake certificates while Adhikary used to give the task of forging documents to Bal Bahadur Raut.

A team led by Police Inspector Anil Kumar Ghimire arrested Adhikary and Thapa. SP of MCD Teku Uma Shankar Panjiyar said they would file a case against Raut, Thapa and Adhikary at Kathmandu District Court.
