Ages of Paintings: An index of modern Nepali painting
Apr 15, 2018-
The Music Art gallery at Jhamsikhel is currently hosting a group exhibition of paintings called Ages of Paintings: Mini-Large.
The show, which began on April 14, includes works by 15 Nepali artists, both young and old. An art work is a child of its age, reflecting the aesthetic and thematic concerns of its time.
As such, the exhibited works reflect the generational context of the artist thus allowing viewers to glimpse at the progression of Nepali painting over the years. Featured artists include Sashi Bikram Shah, Krishna Manadhar, Shyam Lal Shrestha, Radhye Shyam Mulmi, Asha Dongol, Erina Tamrakar, Pramila Bajracharya, Binod Pradhan, Mukesh Shrestha, Krishna Gopal Shrestha, and the late Puran Khadka.
The exhibit consists of both small and large format paintings, drawings, and mixed media works. According to the gallery, “Mini paintings” or small format pieces begin at the price of Rs 10, 000 while the most expensive work featured in the show is a large scale Mix media painting by Mukesh Shrestha worth Rs 1 million.
The exhibition will conclude on March 1.
