First Jhapali theatre house begins hosting plays

The facility began staging plays almost immediately upon construction. The Kakarvitta playhouse was inaugurated by Shree Prasad Mainali, a lawmaker for the provincial assembly.
Following the inauguration, a staging of Nepali play Tsunami took place on Monday. The play tells the story of a widow who loses her migrant labourer husband to the eponymous disaster and her life thereafter.
The new facility is built on a large room provided by the Mechi Samudayik Kendra. According to Kabita Nepal, chairperson of Parivartan, Rs 2,00,000 has been spent on adding infrastructure that can accommodate about 100 spectators.
Speaking at the programme, Mainali stressed on the role of theatre in social development and change. Similarly, Somnath Khanal, an artist from Mandala theatre, shared that the government should establish theatres in all seven provinces and not just in the Capital.
