In yet another setback to tiger conservation efforts, a female tiger was found dead some three kilometers from sector office in Chitwan National Park on Sunday morning. This is the fourth tiger to die in the past one month in the district.

Assistant conservation officer Abinaya Pathak informed the tiger had injuries on its neck and stomach area. Pathak said it might have died due to the injuries sustained after a battle with another tiger.

Another female tiger was found dead near the Rapti river at the park in Sauraha around a month ago. Pathak said that tiger too had died after clash with another tiger.

Tiger cubs remain with their mother for around two years. Both the dead tigers were around three years old. Officials assumed the tigers might have fought for food and territory.

Two other tigers were found dead at Ratnanagar-based Panchakanya Community Forest in the district. One male tiger, with multiple injuries, was found dead on Friday while another died on March 21.

As per a recent census, there are 198 tigers in Nepal of which 120 were found in Chitwan district.
