The women’s team defeated Nepal 5-0 in the final and men’s team saw off Pakistan 3-2 to clinch the gold. Nepal’s women team comprising of Devika Khadka, Manita Shrestha Pradhan, Phupu Lahmu Khatri, Bhawana Gharti Magar and Punam Shrestha lost to Indian team comprising of Sushila Devi Likmambam, Anita Angom Chanu, Sunibala Devi Huidrom, Garima Chaudhary and Tulika Maan defeated.
Pradhan was the only player from Nepal to score a wazari point in the game before she was floored down by Chanu. The South Asian Games gold medallist Khatri was also pinned down by Huidrom. Pakistan secured bronze defeating Bangladesh 4-1.
In the men’s event India team comprising of Vijay Kumar Yadav, Ajay Yadav, Divesh, Jobandeep Singh and Udayvir Singh beat Pakistan’s team that included Babar Hussain, Nadeem Akram, Muhammad Abbas, Qaisar Khan and Shah Hussain Shah. Sri Lanka overturn a 2-0 deficit to beat hosts Nepal 3-0 for a bronze.
India had already won 10 of the 14 individual gold medals on offer. Nepal finished second with two gold, six silver and 13 bronze medals while Pakistan secured third place with two gold, three silver and three bronze medals.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the members of South Asian Judo Federation held on the sideline of the Championships has decided to hold the next edition of the event in Bangladesh in 2020. Sri Lanka will host the junior and cadet championships in 2019.
