Human trafficking to take centre stage in post-quake film

The film, titled The Darkness Beckon, will zoom in and reflect on the personal story of Sandhya Patra, who hails from Tauthali, Sindhupalchowk. The producers launched the film’s trailer and soundtrack amid a function in the Capital on Wednesday.
Director Paban KC, speaking at the event, said that the film was a product of long research into the case of human trafficking, the subject the film revolves around.
“We intend to bring social awareness in order to tackle the issue,” KC said, “The film follows the protagonist after the loss of her parents in the earthquakes, and explores how a young girl is tricked and trafficked by her own uncle.”
Mercury Shrestha, who will be seen in the lead role, said that she was overwhelmed at first by the gravity of the character she needed to portray. “But as we continued, I could place myself in the character’s shoes,” Shrestha said.
Also speaking at the event, Ramkeshar Bogati, the president of Film Actors’ Association and the previous president duo Ramesh Budhathoki and Rabindra Khadka, echoed the sentiment that the audience will welcome the subject that the movie has tried to shed light on.
Produced by Rajesh Rijal, the film is written by the director KC himself. The Darkness Beckon features actors Mercury Shrestha, Pawan KC, Ashmita Basnet, Shanti Basnet, Sujata Shrestha and Baidar Lama, in the lead roles.
