Pokhara folk, tourists hit hard by transport strike

Daily life of general public in Province 4 has been hit hard due to the transport strike called by various transport committees against the government crackdown on transport syndicates.

Province Capital Pokhara among other districts in the province have been hit hard after transport entrepreneurs halted long and short route bus services from Friday.

Prithvi Rajmarga Bus Entrepreneurs Committee, Pokhara Nagar Bus, Bindyabasini Bus among other committees have refused to ply on the roads. The Bindyabasini Bus Entrepreneurs Committee had earlier stood against the protest programmes of the syndicate.

Likewise, there are few taxis that are plying on the road and many public vehicles coming in and going out of the city have halted their services.

Meanwhile, Kaski Chief District Officer Taranath Adhikari said that since the public transport sector falls under the essential services, the services should not be halted. He further informed that the police have already begun process to file charges against defiant transport companies under the Essential Services Operation Act .
