STEC Pyuthan General Secretary Chandra Man Shrestha among five transport entrepreneurs were arrested on Friday for allegedly obstructing public vehicles from plying roads from Bijuwar of Pyuthan Municipality, DSP Rajendra Pokharel of the District Police Office said. They have been detained at the District Police Office, Khalanga.
According to DSP Pokharel, they have been accused of obstructing public vehicles from plying roads smoothly.
Chandra Man Shrestha told over phone that he along with treasurer and other three other transport entrepreneurs were arrested by the police.
The Swargadwari Committee has halted transport services as per the programme of Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE), while the Namaste Pyuthan Pvt. Ltd has operated its services.
Very few people were seen on the roads due to the rumour of strike, said Namaste Pvt. Ltd representative Dil Bahadur Dasaudi.
Likewise, three transport entrepreneurs were apprehended from Hetauda today for enforcing transport strike in Hetauda.
Transport committees have halted their services against the government move to crackdown on transport syndicates.
The arrestees have been identified as Krishna Neupane and Krishna Shrestha of Narayani Yatayat Byawasayi Sangh and Tempo and Majhaula Sangh Hetauda Chairman Gyanendra Karki.
People of rural areas have been hit hard due to the transport strike
