Three Assistant Sub-Inspectors and a Constable were injured in the attack that took place at around 3 am today. They are undergoing treatment at the Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital in Birgunj.
The injured have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspectors Gopal Khadka, Sukeshwor Mahato and Sambhu Mahato and Constable Jaya Prakash Yadav, DSP Rajan Limbu of the District Police Office, Parsa, said.
Among the injured, health condition of Khadka and Yadav is normal, doctors involved in their treatment said.
DSP Limbu said that the locals attacked the police post to release four Indian citizens and two Nepali men who were arrested on the charge of misbehaving with police personnel and theft respectively.
The locals have also torched two motorbikes parked on the premises of police post.
Police lobbed teargas shells and fired warning shots into the air to disperse the mob after they vandalised the vehicles of security personnel. The police post also suffered minor damage in the attack.
The inebriated Indian men were heading towards India on a motorbike when they were intercepted by a police team deployed from the Mahadevpatti Police Post on Sunday evening. Police said that they arrested the Indian men and kept at the Sedhawa Police Post after they manhandled them during the interrogation.
Similarly, two persons arrested on the charge of theft from Subarnapur were also kept at the same custody. The locals pelted stones at the police post and torched the vehicles to free them.
