The residents of Mahashila Rural Municipality in Parbat district are excited about ‘One House, One Employment’ campaign launched by the local government.

As part of the campaign, 370 participants, between the ages 18 to 55 years, are receiving training to get jobs in their own villages.

The campaign coordinator, Ishwori Prasad Bhusal, said they were going to provide 18 different jobs to the participants. “The participants will have the choice of working in the fields of animal husbandry, agriculture, health, sanitation and infrastructure development, among others,” he said. The municipal office has allocated Rs 9.5 million for the campaign. Raju Paudel, chairman of the rural municipality, said they have prioritised the inclusion of people from the disadvantaged groups in the campaign. “The municipal office will provide Rs 6,000 to each worker as salary. They will only have to work for 15 days as instructed by the local unit. The remaining days, they are free to work independently,” said Paudel.

There are around 2,000 households in Mahashila. Dil Kumari Thapa of Hirukharka village said she wanted to get a job in the healthcare sector, so she enrolled herself for a training in the relevant field. “We are pleased with what the local government is doing in our area. The village women used to be confined in household activities earlier. This campaign is teaching us to become independent,” said Thapa.
