Third edition of Photo Kathmandu in Oct
May 24, 2018-Photo Kathmandu 2018, an international photography festival organised by photo.circle, is slated to run from 12 October to 16 November. This festival, which includes exhibitions along with projections, workshops, and media residency, among others, is the third edition of Photo Kathmandu which is expected to be hosted in two sites, Kaalo.101 art gallery and Pimbahal, both of which are based in Patan.
This year’s project, which revolves around issues such as gender, patriarchy, power, identity, sexuality, and equality, aims to revive a discourse in the field. The programme calls for application from interested artists and art collectives, specialising in research, to create a site specific artwork. Nepali citizens (or a person of Nepali origin) with at least five years of artistic practice (in photography, performing arts, oral history, architecture, and urban planning) are requested to submit a “Proposed Artwork Concept,” an illustrated and detailed concept of site, materials, and logistic requirements, for the artwork by the June 15. Also, they are requested to submit their resume and a portfolio consisting of ten art pieces (maximum) which reflect their interests as artists.
The selected artist will receive a grant of Rs 1, 50, 000 as production cost of the project. S/he will gain access to the Nepal Picture Library, a digital photo archive with 70,000 images, and will work under the guidance of Sujan Chitrakar, a KU based professor and a prominent member of the Photo Kathmandu curatorial team.
