In literacy, life expectancy, number of schools, road network, industry registration and access to financial services, Province 3 leaves others behind. The province has the highest number of industry registration (4,961), highest number of branches of banks and financial institutions (29.2 percent), highest deposits (71.7 percent) and loans (56.9 percent). With 477.9 megawatts, Province 4 beats other provinces in hydroelectric generation. According to the economic survey, Province 2 and Karnali Province produce no hydroelectricity.
Karnali also lags in irrigation facilities with 22.9 percent cultivable land lacking water for fields. In Province 2, 66.3 percent land is irrigated but the state has basic food deficit of 112,000 tonnes. Two other food-deficit states are Province 3 and Karnali. (PR)
