Fixing accused footballer arrested on illegal cricket betting charges

KC and five others were arrested from various places in Kathmandu on Tuesday. Police said they are investigating involvement of other persons in the betting.
The arrested six were made public amid a press conference organised by Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu Chief SSP BishwarajPokharel. The arrested are KC, Gaurab Tiwari, Bhupendra Shamsher Kunwar, Bijaya Shrestha, Dinesh Bogati and Narendra Suwal.
SSP Pokharel said Tiwari, the chief mastermind, in collusion with an Indian national named Nagraj started the illegal betting. Following dispute with Nagraj, Tiwari started a betting racket of his own.
Tiwari opened a master account under ‘Gaurab 300’ and 24 other secondary accounts from his master account in msa.lcexch.com. The total transaction in his account amounts to Rs 74,702,000.
Tiwari’s assistant Bhupendra Shamsher Kunwar also opened an account in the same site whose transaction totals Rs 32,297,000.
Police said KC began illegal betting two years ago with Kunwar. KC’s account shows total transaction of Rs 27,705,000. Another arrested Shrestha’s account shows transaction of Rs 7,700,000.
Police said arrested Bogati used to work as Tiwari’s assistant and used to transport amount to Tiwari and his agents. All the transactions were done in cash, police said.
KC was previously arrested for his alleged involvement in international match-fixing charges. He was later released on bail by the Special Court.
