Kathmandu District Court has remanded Meridian Medical operator Dewan Rai in judicial custody.

Rai was sent to the custody after he failed to deposit a bail bond of Rs 5 million.

The government had filed a case against 39 medical examiners for duping people aspiring to go to Malaysia for work during biomedical health check-up.

Police had produced the operator of Meridian Medical before the court by demanding Rs 21.2 million as fine.

Police are preparing to present a file against five more health institutions at the court today.

Earlier, the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security had scrapped additional fees being charged under various headings on Nepali migrant workers aspiring to go to Malaysia.

Police have so far arrested 39 medical operators for charging additional fees on Nepali migrant workers.
